Dr. Fatima Ferreira is currently a Full Professor at the Department of Biosciences of the University of Salzburg, Austria. Her scientific career started with a D.D.S. (Doctor in Dental Surgery) degree at the Federal University of Uberlandia, Brazil followed by a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Afterwards, she worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Toronto, Canada and then as a research assistant at the Institute of General and Experimental Pathology at the University of Vienna, Austria. In 2000 she became Associate Professor and in 2011 Full Professor at the University of Salzburg, Austria.
Her scientific activities include more than 230 peer-reviewed publications, 8 patents, 32 book contributions, more than 100 abstracts, more than 90 invited lectures, and supervision of 48 Master and 27 PhD Theses.
She has been honored with numerous awards, including “Researcher of the Year” by the Austrian Journalists Association in January 2009. From 2011 to 2019, she has served as Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Salzburg, Austria.
